fast-paced story weaves its way through shadowy
politics, wicked depravity, dire risks, faith and
its lack, and above all, toxic secrets. Yet
layered between the often painful, disturbing
storylines are lighthearted moments of humor,
music, and the special kind of magic that can only
be found in Ireland. Serving as backdrop to the
personal stories is the violence of Northern
Ireland in the early 1970s. The dialogue is crisp
and genuine, the characterizations rich and
varied, and the prose often inclines toward the
poetic. A skilled storyteller, Brandner does not

another level, making us fall even more in love
with these characters. As

While this
is the sequel to Brandner's novel 'Exit Unicorns',
this book
only creates more tension and drama to the core of
the continuing story.
Sequels to favorite stories have disappointed in
the past but I can say
with all honesty that 'Mermaid in a Bowl of Tears'
delivers even more
depth, love, friendship, betrayal, and heartbreak.
Yes, I shed more than a
few tears but Mrs. Brandner's characters literally
jumped off the pages
and into my heart. That's the kind of story-teller
she is and I would
highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a
story filled with passion and complexity. I cannot
wait to read more from this talented author.
